Attorney General Jason Miyares has issued a consumer alert to inform Virginians about their potential eligibility for payments from a $700 million settlement with Google. The settlement, secured by Virginia in December 2023, addresses claims that Google’s anticompetitive practices harmed consumers and app developers who made purchases on the Google Play Store between August 2016 and September 2023.

According to the announcement, affected consumers began receiving notifications regarding the distribution process of the settlement funds on December 2, 2025. Most individuals will not need to take further action to receive payment, as most disbursements will be made automatically without requiring a claim form.

If the court grants final approval at a hearing scheduled for April 30, 2026, consumers will receive notification of their payment via email from PayPal or text message from Venmo. The notice will be sent to the email address or mobile number linked to their Google Play account. If these details match an existing PayPal or Venmo account, funds will be deposited directly; otherwise, recipients can create a new account or redirect payment.

A supplemental claims process will follow for those who do not receive automatic payments. Consumers wishing to be notified about this process can submit their contact information on the settlement website. The website may not be accessible if accessed through a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Attorney General Miyares stated: “Attorney General Miyares encourages all affected consumers to keep track of important upcoming dates in the settlement approval process.”
