The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia announced on April 15 the launch of a new Electronic Document Submission System (EDSS) aimed at self-represented, or pro se, litigants.

The new system is intended to make it easier and more secure for individuals without legal counsel to submit documents to the Clerk’s Office. By offering an alternative to in-person visits and traditional mail, EDSS aims to improve accessibility and convenience for those navigating the court process on their own.

According to the court’s announcement, “EDSS provides a secure, convenient alternative for submitting documents to the Clerk’s Office for filing, reducing the need for in-person visits or reliance on traditional mail. This system is designed to improve accessibility for individuals navigating the court system without counsel.”

Individuals interested in using EDSS can find more information about instructions and eligibility by visiting the designated EDSS resource page provided by the court.

The introduction of this electronic filing option reflects ongoing efforts within judicial systems nationwide to modernize processes and support broader access to justice.
