A Roanoke man has admitted to robbing multiple Truist Banks in October 2022. Michael Anthony McCoy, 67, pleaded guilty to federal charges including bank robbery with the use of a dangerous weapon and another count of bank robbery.
Dawn Davis, a second defendant in the case, had previously pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing later this year.
Court documents reveal that McCoy instructed Davis to write a threatening note for use in the robbery. On October 26, 2022, McCoy entered the Truist Bank on Melrose Avenue NW in Roanoke, handed the note to a teller, and then approached another teller while displaying a firearm. He stole approximately $6,485 from this location.
Two days later, McCoy robbed another Truist Bank on McClanahan Street SW, taking nearly $6,000.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Zachary T. Lee; Stephen Farina, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Division; and Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares.
The investigation is being conducted by the FBI and the City of Roanoke Police Department. The case is prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney John Beamer and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Scheff.
