A Richmond City Circuit Court has found AJP Educational Foundation, also known as American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), in civil contempt for not complying with a court order. The order required AMP to fully respond to a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) issued by the Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares’ office.
The Attorney General’s office began its investigation in October 2023 after issuing the CID over concerns that AMP was not following Virginia’s charitable solicitation law and may have used solicited funds for improper purposes. Instead of providing the requested information, AMP filed a petition to change or set aside the demand. The court denied this petition in July 2024.
Following continued refusal from AMP to comply, the Attorney General brought an enforcement action in January 2025. In May 2025, the court directed AMP to comply with the CID, and a formal order was entered in June requiring compliance within 14 days.
According to today’s announcement, “AMP was held in civil contempt of court because it failed to comply with the Court’s June order by not fully complying with and responding to the CID.”
AMP is based in Falls Church, Virginia. The Attorney General’s office stated that its investigation is ongoing and declined further comment.
