Kevin Gallagher has been appointed as the new Solicitor General of Virginia, according to an announcement from Attorney General Jason Miyares. Gallagher began serving in the role on August 20, following his tenure as Principal Deputy Solicitor General and Director of Tenth Amendment Litigation. He takes over from Erika Maley.

Before joining the administration led by Miyares in January 2022, Gallagher worked at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, where he most recently held the position of Counsel. He also served as a clerk for Judge Alice M. Batchelder on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Gallagher is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and completed his undergraduate education at Grove City College.

The Office of the Solicitor General represents state officials and agencies in appeals before major courts including the United States Supreme Court, Fourth Circuit, Virginia Supreme Court, as well as various district courts and federal appellate courts across the country.

Attorney General Miyares stated: “Since August 20, Kevin Gallagher has been serving as Solicitor General after serving as Principal Deputy Solicitor General and Director of Tenth Amendment Litigation. He succeeds previous Solicitor General Erika Maley.”
