An Italian national living in Woodbridge has been sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated identity theft after using unauthorized credit card information to purchase a firearm.

Court documents state that Wilford Amoako Osei, 23, placed an online order on June 2, 2024, for a firearm worth $1,249. He used another person’s name and credit card number without permission. The victim later reported the credit card as lost or stolen. Osei received the firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Woodbridge on June 24, 2024.

Between June 24 and August 30, 2024, Osei tried six more times to buy firearms online using the names and credit card numbers of other victims. These attempts were blocked or cancelled and did not result in any additional purchases.

The sentencing was announced by Erik S. Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Anthony A. Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel K. Amzallag and the sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff.
