A Goochland resident, Don Carnell Batchelor Jr., has been sentenced to five years in prison for distributing cocaine and fentanyl that resulted in a fatal overdose. The sentencing took place in Richmond, Virginia.

Court documents state that on August 20, 2021, Batchelor’s friend, referred to as “SN” in records, requested that Batchelor obtain cocaine and fentanyl. Batchelor provided the substances to SN, who later used them while visiting family. SN was found dead at his parents’ home the next morning. The medical examiner determined the cause of death was toxicity from both cocaine and fentanyl.

Lindsey Halligan, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Christopher C. Goumenis, Special Agent in Charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Division; and Lee S. Bailey, New Kent County Sheriff, announced the sentencing after it was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson.

The Virginia State Police assisted with the investigation of this case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivia L. Norman prosecuted the case.
