A former director at a local business has filed a federal lawsuit claiming he was fired after objecting to working on his religious day of rest, raising questions about workplace rights and protections for religious observance. The complaint was filed by Seth Weg in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on March 5, 2026, naming The Landing Alexandria as the defendant.

According to court documents, Weg began working for The Landing Alexandria in May 2023 as Director of Dining Services. He identifies as an observant Jewish person and alleges that there was an agreement with his employer allowing him not to work on the Sabbath. Despite this understanding, Weg claims that in late 2023, “the Landing insisted on Weg working on the Sabbath,” which conflicted with his religious practices.

Weg reports that he raised concerns about what he describes as religious discrimination to both Human Resources and corporate leadership at The Landing Alexandria during October and November 2023. “Human Resources never took any actions relating to this complaint,” according to the filing. Following these complaints, Weg alleges that he faced retaliation from his employer in the form of disciplinary write-ups for violations of what he calls “non existent corporate policies.”

The complaint states that Weg’s employment was terminated in January 2024 for reasons he contends were pretextual. He asserts that his firing was directly connected to his objections regarding religious discrimination: “Weg contends that his employment was terminated in response to his complaints of religious discrimination.” In response to these events, Weg dual-filed a Charge of Discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), alleging violations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The legal filing outlines several causes for damages against The Landing Alexandria. It alleges that “Defendant’s conduct as alleged herein was intended to cause injury to Plaintiff or was carried on by Defendant in willful disregard and conscious disregard of the rights of the Plaintiff.” Furthermore, it is claimed that officers or managing agents at The Landing authorized or ratified wrongful conduct described as oppression, fraud, and malice toward Weg.

Weg’s complaint argues that he was qualified for his position but “Defendant unlawfully discriminated against Plaintiff by terminating his employment based upon his religion, Jewish, and in retaliation for complaints of religious discrimination.” He further alleges that similarly situated non-Jewish employees were treated differently regarding terms and conditions of employment.

As relief from the court, Weg seeks compensatory damages including back pay, front pay, mental anguish, and loss of dignity. Additionally, he requests punitive damages as permitted under Title VII due to what he describes as intentional or malicious conduct by the defendant. Other demands include interest on any awarded sums, court costs, attorneys’ fees where applicable under law, and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

The case is being brought pro se by Seth Weg himself without assistance from an attorney at this stage. No names of judges are listed in the provided document. The case identification number is 1:26-cv-00639-LMB-WBP.
