Attorney General Jason S. Miyares has released a new educational resource aimed at addressing antisemitism in Virginia. The lesson will be part of the Virginia Rules program, which offers law-related education to students, parents, teachers, and communities throughout the state.
The newly published module outlines how Virginia’s laws regarding discrimination and hate crimes provide protections for Jewish residents. It also introduces students to aspects of Jewish religion, culture, and history. This addition comes amid data from the FBI indicating a significant rise in hate crimes targeting Jewish Americans.
“Like all Americans, Jewish Americans deserve to be treated as individuals who contribute their rich traditions and efforts to the American fabric, not defined by the evil that opposes them,” according to the statement from Attorney General Miyares.
Virginia Rules is designed as a state-specific educational initiative for elementary through high school students. Its goal is to inform young Virginians about state laws so they can become active citizens while fostering connections with local law enforcement. The curriculum covers topics such as bullying, internet safety, dating violence, gun and gang violence, substance abuse, human trafficking, and fentanyl-laced counterfeit drugs. These materials are accessible online for use by students, parents, and educators at any time.
The new lesson on antisemitism is now available through the Virginia Rules platform.
