Attorney General Jay Jones announced on April 28 a summary of recent actions taken by his office, highlighting efforts to defend the results of a statewide referendum, promote fair housing, and support community initiatives in Virginia.

The announcement is significant as it details how the Office of the Attorney General continues to serve the Commonwealth by defending voter decisions, supporting civil rights enforcement, and engaging with communities. The office also addresses issues such as human trafficking and domestic violence through legal advocacy according to the official website.

Jones said his office will appeal a Tazewell County circuit court injunction that blocked certification of a redistricting referendum approved by voters. “My office will immediately file an appeal in the Court of Appeals. As I said last night, Virginia voters have spoken, and an activist judge should not have veto power over the People’s vote. We look forward to defending the outcome of last night’s election in court.”

The attorney general also hosted a roundtable focused on advancing fair housing for all residents. The event brought together community leaders and advocates to discuss strategies addressing inequities in housing systems. In addition, Jones recognized Armstrong High School students during Youth Violence Prevention Week for their resilience and achievements.

As part of ongoing outreach efforts, Jones invited Black artists with ties to Virginia to display their work at his office in Richmond’s Barbara Johns Building. This initiative is part of returning “the OAG back to the people” by showcasing local talent and fostering dialogue around art and justice.

In national developments, Jones joined 33 other state attorneys general in securing a jury verdict against Live Nation and Ticketmaster for violating antitrust laws. “I am proud of the dedicated attorneys and staff of the Virginia OAG, and in partner states across the nation, who worked tirelessly to ensure that Live Nation and Ticketmaster can no longer pad their pockets on the backs of hardworking consumers.”

The Attorney General provides legal counsel to state agencies while promoting public safety as detailed on its official website. Services include consumer protection resources for identity theft prevention as noted online. Miyares currently serves as Virginia’s 48th Attorney General according to official records, serving all residents across Virginia.
