Attorney General Jay Jones released on Mar. 28 a summary of recent actions taken by his office in Virginia, focusing on public health, consumer protection, veterans’ rights, and opposition to certain federal policies.

The update highlights efforts to address illegal vape sales to minors, protect consumers from predatory practices, defend veterans’ benefits, and challenge federal decisions affecting Virginians. The Attorney General of Virginia provides legal counsel and representation to state agencies while promoting public safety and defending constitutional rights, as detailed on the official website.

Jones celebrated the passage of the Vape Enforcement Act during a virtual press conference with lawmakers. “These products are marketed in ways that downplay the harm…And they have been getting into the hands of young people far too easily. The Vape Enforcement Act closes those loopholes and gives us the tools to stop it,” Jones said. He also called rising youth vaping rates “a concerning and important public health and safety issue as well as a consumer protection issue … vaping threatens to addict a new generation of American youth, much the way that Big Tobacco did for generations before.” According to reports from several news outlets cited by Jones’s office, these new laws aim to regulate vape product sales more strictly across Virginia.

In other actions highlighted in his update, Jones joined multi-state efforts challenging Trump administration policies such as tariffs and regulations affecting healthcare access. “Virginians shouldn’t have to pay the exorbitant price tag of Donald Trump’s trade tantrums,” he said regarding tariff-related refunds. On contraceptive coverage rollbacks: “When the federal government ignores the law and undermines access to basic health care, states have a responsibility to stand up. Virginia is doing exactly that…”

Consumer protection remains another focus for Jones’s office. “My office will always fight back against predatory lenders that take advantage of vulnerable communities for their own financial gain,” he said about joining lawsuits against companies like OneMain Financial and Nexstar-TEGNA mergers threatening local news diversity.

The Attorney General’s responsibilities include civil rights enforcement programs for victims as well as advocacy against human trafficking and domestic violence according to official information. Services also include resources for identity theft prevention and fraud reporting as noted by his office. The Attorney General serves all residents throughout Virginia according to official information.

Broader implications from these initiatives suggest ongoing vigilance over public health issues like vaping among youth; continued legal action related to consumer protections; environmental advocacy; veteran support; along with active participation in national discussions around federal regulation impacts at state level.
