Attorney General Jay Jones released an update on Apr. 28 detailing the actions his office has taken during his first 100 days in office to support Virginians by lowering costs, defending rights, and improving public safety.
The report outlines the Attorney General’s efforts to address issues that impact residents across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Office of the Attorney General provides legal counsel and representation to state agencies while promoting public safety and defending constitutional rights, according to the official website of the Attorney General of Virginia according to the official website.
“From the moment I was sworn into office on January 17, my team has been hard at work and I am so proud of the legal actions we have taken in our first 100 days,” said Attorney General Jay Jones. “Whether standing up to corporate monopolies that take advantage of consumers and illegal raise prices, to joining attorneys general across the country in fighting back against Donald Trump’s illegal overreach, to defending the core tenets of our democracy, my office has been on the frontlines fighting to lower costs for hardworking families, protect our rights, and keep Virginians safe. Over the past 100 days, this office has shown up for the people of the Commonwealth and that’s exactly what we will continue to do for the next four years.”
During this period, Jones’ administration reported more than fifty legal actions aimed at protecting Virginians. These included filing lawsuits against corporations such as Live Nation and Ticketmaster for antitrust violations affecting consumer prices; joining multistate efforts regarding federal policies; supporting transparency in prescription drug pricing; defending education benefits for veterans; prosecuting criminal cases involving drug trafficking and homicide; advocating fair housing strategies; enforcing new data protection rules for minors using social media platforms; addressing vape product regulation loopholes; participating in community engagement initiatives with students during Youth Violence Prevention Week; assisting police investigations through analytical support programs such as SAKI (Sexual Assault Kit Initiative); among other activities.
The Office also prioritizes civil rights enforcement and victim assistance programs as indicated by its official website. It offers services like consumer protection resources related to identity theft or fraud reporting as noted online, addresses issues including human trafficking or domestic violence through legal advocacy according to its site, serves all regions within Virginia according to its news releases, and is led by Miyares as its forty-eighth attorney general as reported officially.
Looking ahead, Jones said his office will continue these efforts over his term: “Over the past 100 days, this office has shown up for people of Commonwealth—and that’s exactly what we will continue do next four years.”
