Attorney General Jay Jones announced plans to appeal a recent decision by the Tazewell County Circuit Court in the case of Republican National Committee v. Koski. In a statement released from Richmond, Jones said, “My office will immediately appeal the ruling issued by the Tazewell County Circuit Court. These arguments are already before the Supreme Court of Virginia, the proper forum to consider the arguments, which has set a schedule for receiving arguments and has justifiably allowed the vote to proceed during this time.”

The Attorney General’s office is responsible for providing legal counsel and representation to state agencies while promoting public safety and defending constitutional rights across Virginia, as outlined on its official website. The office also supports civil rights enforcement and victim assistance programs.

According to information provided by the official website, Miyares currently serves as the 48th Attorney General of Virginia. The office covers issues such as human trafficking, domestic violence through legal advocacy, and offers consumer protection resources for identity theft and fraud reporting throughout the Commonwealth.

Jones’s statement follows ongoing proceedings related to voting matters that are being considered at both circuit court and Supreme Court levels in Virginia.
